CRANDON, Wis. (May 14, 2012) – Fans attending next month’s annual Brush Run at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway are in for a treat as the wild open wheel ‘moon buggy’-style vehicles that compete on the Ultra 4 Series, popularized by the annual “King of the Hammers” race, will line up and race the Brush Run both Saturday and Sunday at Crandon.

ATX-backed drivers Loren Healy, Cottin Rodd, Derek West, and Nick Nelson are among those expected to compete. ATX is the official wheel of the 2012 Ultra 4 Series. All ATX drivers in Ultra4 are using the ATX Slab, a beadlock wheel designed specifically to meet the rigors of off-road competition.

The inaugural 15 vehicle Ultra 4 race at Crandon will take place June 16 and 17 on the same track the Traxxas TORC Series, presented by AMSOIL. PRO Light, 2WD and 4×4 trucks, including those piloted by KMC-backed Menzies Motorsports drivers Bryce Menzies and Ricky Johnson, will race earlier in the day.

Ultra 4 Series vehicles are designed to manage desert terrain, eating up big obstacles as they crawl up and down steep rock faces at places like Moab, Utah. But they can also build big speed from their 600-hp engines and it is thought they’ll hit top speeds approaching 90 mph at Crandon.

The Ultra 4 vehicles, with their exposed suspension and massive low pressure flotation tires, mark a radical departure from the TORC truck-style racers at Crandon. Likened more to the Super Buggy class, Ultra 4s are considerably more powerful, higher off the ground and – something that the Crandon faithful will no doubt appreciate – tend to roll over onto their tops fairly easily.

Since 2004, ATX Wheels has offered outdoor enthusiasts wheels designed specifically to meet the demands of off-roading. ATX is the only company to offer wheels that are coated with Teflon to enhance the wheels’ resistance to brake dust, dirt, road film and UV degradation.

BILLINGS, Mont. – On the final ride of the Stanley Tools and Security Invitational presented by The Nile, Austin Meier rode Cowboy Casanova (Mesa Bucking Bulls) for 87.75 points to finish with 337.25 points and his first Built Ford Tough Series event win since 2010.

It is the seventh career win for the ATX-backed Meier, who earned $32,200 for the title, and also took home $2,500 in Stanley® FatMax® tools, and a $1,000 Kwikset Home Security Makeover. Meier is now seventh in the season standings.

2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi finished second with 332 points, and Ben Jones finished third with 309.75 points. The Top 3 finishers were the only riders to cover all four bulls during the three days of action at Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark. Jones took the average lead after scoring 87.75 points on Cooper Tires Grey Ghost (Dakota Rodeo/Berger/Struve/Schott) in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round, but was passed on the very next ride by Marchi, who had more points in the event average and scored 87.75 points on Carrillo Cartel (4C’s/Sills/TLW Bucking Bulls). Meier, who was the leader after Round 2 and Round 3, then clinched the win with his ride.

Stormy Wing won the championship round with a career-best 91 points on Smackdown’s Tire Rama (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Rosen), and finished fourth in the average with 261 points. Reigning PBR World Champion Silvano Alves finished second in the championship round with 89.5 points on Buckey (Wentz Bucking Bulls), and fifth in the average with 259.5 points.

Top-ranked Valdiron de Oliveira did not compete in Billings after being stepped on following a second-place ride in Round 3 at Uncasville, Conn., last week. He will eventually undergo surgery to repair a fracture of his eye socket.

Oliveira’s absence allowed second-ranked Alves to move to within 497.75 points of the top spot in the season rankings, while third-ranked L.J. Jenkins, who finished seventh in the average, is only 670.75 points behind. Marchi moved up to fourth place, trailing by 866.25 points, and J.B. Mauney is fifth, 1,048 points back.

Mauney competed for the second week in a row riding with his right hand down, after breaking a bone in his customary left riding hand four weeks ago at Kansas City, Mo. Mauney rode two of four bulls in Billings, including a second-place trip in the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle on Friday, and is now 2-for-8 since making the switch.

Buckey, Chocolate Thunder (Bird Bucking Bulls), and Smackdown’s Tire Rama shared the Pabst Blue Ribbon Bull Award as high-marked bulls of the event, with each scoring 44.75 points out of a possible 50. As part of a special promotion from the title sponsor, two-time PBR Stock Contractor of the Year Jeff Robinson won $2,500 in Stanley® FatMax® tools after the bull Stanley FatMax bucked off Billy Robinson in the championship round.

The event was the record 17th year in a row that Billings has hosted the BFTS, which is the most appearances and consecutive appearances of the PBR in any city.

CBS Sports Network broadcast action from Round 3 and the Built Ford Tough Championship Round at 6 p.m. ET Sunday. An encore airing is set for Monday, May 7, at 9 p.m. ET.

The BFTS will return to Nampa, Idaho, next weekend for the first time since 2010.

I pull up, catch one real quick and move on to the next spot.

DANDRIDGE, Tenn. — Britt Myers jumped from one fishing spot to another over the weekend to earn the second-biggest catch of the Douglas Lake Challenge.

Myers was in the lead heading into the final day of the competition, and credited his success in the contest to staying on the move. “That’s my style. I pull up, catch one real quick and move on to the next spot. I don’t have any luck sitting on a spot for hours.”

Myers, an ATX-backed angler who owns a shop that customizes vehicles, is used to living in the world of speed. He said he is always moving, juggling two careers, and he fishes that way, too. He even fished right through a Saturday morning squall, refusing to stop.

He used his big motor to position the boat, the trolling motor useless in that kind of wind. But the storm passed quickly, and he got moving again. Hooking into one or two key bites was the charm.

Myers had been closing in on his first-ever victory until his rival Jeremy Starks pulled in three last-minute bass for the win. He caught 79 pounds, 1 ounce — trailing the winner by a margin of 2 pounds, 1 ounce.

Myers caught 21-1 of his total the first day to tie at third place. On Day 2, he moved up into the lead after building a 24-1 sack, which turned out to be the tournament’s Berkley Big Bag.

On Day 3 he held on easily at No. 1 by weighing 19-8. His margin over Starks, his nearest challenger going into the final round, was 5-13. But his final bag of 14-7 missed the mark, and he took second place for the second time in a row in an Elite event.

“If I could finish in second place the rest of the year, it’s all good for Britt Myers,” he said, referring to his second-place finish at Bull Shoals on April 22.

Myers went deep for his bass, but unlike most of the 99-angler field, his strategy didn’t hinge on schools of fish. He targeted big, single bass he could see on his electronics. He also used the long-lining technique with two deep-diving crankbaits, a Strike King Series 6XD and a Luhr Jensen Hot Lips. When the wind was blowing, he turned to the noisy rattling Hot Lips. When he wanted a silent presentation, he reached for the 6XD.

The Douglas Lake Challenge results shook up the leaderboard in the 2012 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year race. With his fifth-place finish Sunday, Howell earned enough points to take over. He now sits 26 points ahead of David Walker of Sevierville, Tenn., who moved up one tick into second place. Former points leader Brent Chapman slipped to third.

Several anglers earned bonuses at the Douglas Lake Challenge, including Britt Myers, who took the Berkley Heavyweight Award of $500 for the best five-fish limit.

The Douglas Lake Challenge airs on ESPN2 Sunday, May 13, at 8 a.m. ET, and again the same day at 10 a.m. ET, on ESPN Classic.

The Elite Series will travel next to Many, La., for the June 7-10 Toledo Bend Battle.

Touring National Professional Anglers Association members Jimmy Bell (# 66), Ross Grothe (#64), and Tommy Skarlis (#11) have joined forces to not only grow and promote walleye excitement, but also to share their Wildness 4 the Outdoors.

They will next be at the 2012 FLW Walleye Tour.

“The three of us have a passion for the outdoor lifestyle that is truly unmatched,” says Bell. “It is this same passion that we would like to instill in others and help them go ‘Wild 4 Outdoors,’ by becoming immersed in that lifestyle. I believe our passion links our experiences to others and creates that connection among our families, friends and our partners.”

Through short video clips, articles and photo essays, the trio will share their amazing passions, experiences and vast knowledge of both hunting and fishing. Wild 4 Outdoors will take fans through a wide range of activities, from the professional walleye fishing circuit, or picking morels in the spring, to sitting in the deer stand during November.

With an impressive list of combined accolades, each angler is more than capable of sharing valuable information regarding multi-species angling, tournament fishing and introducing the next generation to the sport of fishing. Each would agree that their passion for hunting in the fall is at the forefront of why they live the outdoor lifestyle, but their competitive drive takes them to the water for the remainder of the year.

At each FLW Walleye Trail event, there will be morning and evening interviews, press releases, photos and an intimate look at what thoughts and emotions each angler experiences before, during and after each event.

Between tournaments and during the off season there will be tips and tactics videos, articles, product reviews, blogs and interviews to keep fans connected to the guys as their outdoor passions unfold all year long.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Riding Delco (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) for 90.25 points, Austin Meier won the fourth Professional Bull Riders 15/15 Bucking Battle on Friday at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

CBS will broadcast the event in its entirety at 2 p.m. ET Saturday, April 28 (please check local listings). The PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle has the Top 15 riders in the world competing against the 15 highest-ranked bulls at the event.

Harve Stewart finished second with 89 points on King Lopez (K-C Bucking Bulls), followed by Ryan Dirteater with 88.75 points on Bad Blake (Wolf Creek Cattle Company) and defending PBR World Champion Silvano Alves with 88.25 points on South Point (K-C Bucking Bulls/Folds/Strickland/Spark-lin Acres). Stewart was added to the draw after Robson Palermo was injured in Round 1 of the Mohegan Sun Invitational presented by Cooper Tires. Stewart was the first rider out of the chute, and led until Meier, the eighth rider, posted his winning score.

Second-ranked J.B. Mauney, who has missed the past two events after having a broken bone in his left (riding hand) surgically repaired, switched to riding with his right hand down, and bucked off Mulligan Man in 4.27 seconds. Top-ranked Valdiron de Oliveira was the last rider of the night, and scored 75.75 points on T-Rex (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo), a re-ride bull. Oliveira’s original draw was High Cost.

Second-ranked Asteroid (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) scored 46.5 points out of a possible 50 after bucking off 2010 PBR World Champion Renato Nunes in 2.86 seconds. It was the 14th consecutive buckoff for Asteroid, who improved to 9-0 in 2012. It was the third time in four PBR 15/15 Bucking Battles that Asteroid has been the high-marked bull. The runner-up for World Champion Bull in 2011 has six of the top nine bull scores. He also has the highest bull score of the year, with 47.5 points when he bucked off Alves in 1.81 seconds in the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle at Sacramento, Calif.

The PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle has an additional purse of $21,000. The bulls were each randomly assigned a position from 1-15. The riders were then matched with their bulls based upon their own current rankings in the Built Ford Tough Series standings.

The PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle replaces the first short round at nine events, and points earned in the special event do not count toward the results of the event. Points earned in the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle do count toward the season standings, however, and money earned counts towards qualification for the Built Ford Tough World Finals. BFTS points are doubled in the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle, with the winner receiving 200 points and second place receiving 180 points, continuing on a graduated scale to 20 points for 10th place. If a rider fails to make a qualified ride, he does not receive any points or money.

The other dates for PBR 15/15 Bucking Battles are May 4 at Billings, Mont.; May 12 at Nampa, Idaho; and May 19 at Pueblo, Colo. Two more events in the second part of the season will be announced at a later date.

BULL SHOALS, Arkansas (April 23, 2012) — ATX sponsored angler Britt Myers earned a second-place finish at the Bassmaster Elite Series TroKar Quest on Bull Shoals Lake this weekend, his best Elite Series finish in six years on tour.

Myers, of Lake Wylie, S.C., had a 66 pound, eight-ounce catch –outranking Trussville, Ala., pro Matt Herren’s four-day total of by just one ounce.

He said the result was as good as a win after a slow start to the 2012 season and credited his weather strategy with being the key to his success.

“It got really rough, and I made a NASCAR move,” Myers told the fishing website bassmaster.com. “I came back about 35 minutes early, because it was rougher than I anticipated. I might have won the tournament that way if Brandon didn’t make it back.”
Myers caught a three-plus pound smallmouth right next to the dock, to gain the ounce that pushed him into the Number 2 spot. His previous top result in a Bassmaster Elite was seventh.

The angler’s key bait was a Rapala DT10 on 10-pound-test Berkley fluorocarbon line. He used a Pinnacle 6.3:1 reel with a 7-11 cranking stick.

Other ATX anglers in the event were Randy Howell, who placed 14th, David Walker, who landed in 17th, and Gerald Swindle who finished 47th.

All of these ATX anglers outfit their tow vehicles and trailers with the ATX Ledge wheel. The ATX Ledge wheel is available in classic chrome and coated with Teflon®.

DES MOINES, Iowa – ATX supported rider Austin Meier took 7th-place points this weekend at the Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series Des Moines Invitational at Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday.

Meier finished with 157.75 points for the weekend, growing his season total earnings to $77,011.67 and maintaining his 8th-place position in the standings.

Robson Palermo took the win with 353.5 points and $51,900, and was the only rider to cover all four bulls. He also made the seventh-highest-marked ride of the season with 92 points on RMEF Gunpowder & Lead (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls). Palermo posted the two highest-marked rides of 2011 on RMEF Gunpowder & Lead with 93.5 points at Milwaukee, and 93.25 points at Pueblo, Colo. He finished second in Round 3 in Des Moines with 86.75 points on Space Chimp (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo), and also won the short round, while tying for second in Round 1 on Saturday. The victory moves Palermo from 23rd to 16th in the BFTS season standings despite missing the first nine events of the season while recovering from surgery in the offseason.

2009 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi finished second with 251.5 points, while L.J. Jenkins was third with 170.75 points. It was the second consecutive runner-up finish for Marchi, and the fourth Top 3 finish in a row for Jenkins, who has five Top 5 finishes in his past six events. Jenkins won two weeks ago at Kansas City, Mo., while finishing third at Indianapolis a week ago, and at Albuquerque, N.M. Stormy Wing finished fourth with 169.5 points, and Emilio Resende was fifth with 168 points.

Asteroid (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) won the Pabst Blue Ribbon Bull Award for being the high-marked bull of the event, earning 47.25 points (out of 50) after bucking off Stormy Wing in 1.99 seconds in the championship round. It was the 13th consecutive buckoff for the second-ranked bull, who improved to 8-0 in 2012. The 47.25 points is the second-highest bull score of the year behind Asteroid’s own 47.5 points when he bucked off PBR World Champion Silvano Alves in 1.81 seconds in the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle at Sacramento, Calif. The runner-up for World Champion Bull in 2011 has five of the seven highest bull scores this season.

Top-ranked Valdiron de Oliveira finished 15th in Des Moines, and increased his BFTS season lead over No. 2 J.B. Mauney to 563 points. Oliveira has 5,925.5 points and Mauney has 5,362.5. Mauney, who has missed the past two events after having a broken bone in his riding hand surgically repaired, was ranked first for seven weeks, including six in a row, before being overtaken a week ago by Oliveira. Mauney has practiced the past week with switching to riding with his right hand down, and may return to competition next week at the Mohegan Sun Invitational presented by Cooper Tires at Uncasville, Conn. Marco Eguche is third in the standings with 5,080.75 points, followed by Jenkins with 4,979.5 points, and Alves with 4,674.25 points.

CBS Sports Network will have an encore airing of action from Round 3 and the championship round tonight at 10 p.m. ET, and Monday, April 23, at 9 p.m. ET.

The PBR Built Ford Tough Series will return to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., for the Mohegan Sun Invitational presented by Cooper Tires on April 27-29. Bull riding begins at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28, and at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 29. Tickets begin at $15 and are available at www.Tickemaster.com, and by telephone at (800) 745-3000.

The BFTS will make 28 stops in 23 states before the Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 24-28, 2012. The World Finals are where the PBR World Champion will be crowned and awarded the coveted Championship Buckle and a $1 million bonus.

LAKE NORMAN, NC (April 11, 2012) — Gerald “G-Man” Swindle took sixth-place at the Bassmaster Southern Open event in North Carolina this weekend with a 33.5-lb catch.

He earned $8,832 of the $50,000 purse awarded at the event. He took second place at the event last year.

Over 180 anglers set out to fish on the weekend, with Swindle, David Walker and Britt Myers representing ATX Wheels. Walker finished 22nd, with a 19.15-lb catch, while Myers hauled in 19.14-lbs to finish right behind him in 23rd. Both took home $2,944 in prize money.

Experts said the bass spawn was further advanced than during the 2011 Open on Norman, and that sight fishing was a factor in 2012 success.

All of these ATX anglers outfit their tow vehicles and trailers with the ATX Ledge wheel. The ATX Ledge wheel is available in classic chrome and coated with Teflon®. Many outdoor enthusiasts prefer ATX’s unique wheels, coated with Teflon®, for their improved resistance to dirt and quick clean-up.

MOAB, UT — The 2012 Moab Easter Jeep Safari saw some of the nicest weather in recent memory. With the exception of one day with a freak snow storm, every day during the week was a perfect doorless and topless day.

The annual, nine-day Moab Easter Jeep Safar consists of a series trail rides that depart from Moab, Utah, and is a highlight of the annual event calendar for off-roaders.

The official event is hosted by the Red Rock 4-Wheelers Inc. one of the local four wheel drive clubs of Moab. Participants provide their own four wheel drive vehicle, take care of their own food and non-alcoholic beverages for the trip.

The locale has become known as the mecca of four-wheeling, with a wide range of trails suitable for all skill levels. Changing weather conditions are always a possibility during the spring in southeastern Utah and participants know to go prepared for adventure. Plenty of Jeeps always take part, but organizers say any participants who have safety-equipped vehicles with high ground clearance and two-speed transfer cases are welcome.

The event culminates on “Big Saturday” with the largest single trail ride. Dozens of groups line up in downtown Moab to head off in every direction for 30 different trails.

Many friends of ATX took part in the 2012 event. Check out this blog from Project JK.
